Richard Greenwald

Richard A. Greenwald, Ph.D. is Dean of the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, Professor History and from 2005-2009 he served as the founding Director of the Business, Society, and Culture Program at Drew University in Madison, NJ. (*)He is a historian, teacher, and writer who specializes in American business and economic history as well as labor and working-class history. His research interests include--globalization, economic development, labor studies, race and ethnic relations, social movements, urban communities, radical social theory, and sweatshops. He has published widely in scholar journals on these subjects. He lectures extensively on New York City history, labor history, sweatshops, and globalization.

He is currently working on three books: a biography of C. Wright Mills; a history of the New York waterfront, 1945--Present, which focuses on NYC's waterfront as a site of the globalizing economy; and a co-edited collection on the past, present and future of labor.

His writings have been published in The Progressive, In These Times, Businessweek on-line, and the Wall Street Journal. He is a regular blogger for the magazine In These Times on labor issues.

Richard was born in NYC (the Bronx) and grew up in Queens in a working-class, union home. His father was a member of the Communication Workers of America and his mother was a secretary before they both retired. He graduated from Queens College, City University of New York with a BA in History and received his Ph.D. in History from New York University.

Richard, his wife Debbie and two children live in Queens.
